WHO RUNS PIMPERNE?
Every four years seven villagers are elected to form the Parish Council. (The next election will be in May 2011). Each year in May the Councillors elect a Chairman.
The Parish Council is the fourth tier of
Government after Parliament, the County Council and the District Council. Its legal powers are granted to it and
regulated by Act of Parliament.
The Parish Council can support provision
of Village Halls, playing fields, seats and bus shelters, notice boards
etc. It is consulted on planning and
development, health, police, roads & transport.

The Parish Clerk is responsible
implementing decisions made by the Parish Council and for ensuring correct
statutory procedures are followed. The
Clerk produces agendas, minutes of meetings, accounts and keeps a register of
interests of members.
An Annual Parish Meeting is held every year
in April/May, which all local government electors for the parish are entitled
to attend, speak and vote. The meeting
may discuss any matter of relevance to the parish.
The
Current Parish Council comprises: Peter
Slocombe (Chairman) Michael Oliver (Vice Chairman) Tony Bartlett, Alan Lukins,
Geoffrey Coull, David Hart and John Tanner.
