After such a long, cold winter we look forward to an eventful
summer with the opening of the Ryland Room at
the Church and the launch of an exciting
programme of fund-raising events for refurbishing the Village Hall. Pimperne Village News is issued twice a year by
the Parish Council and aims to provide an up-date on village activities to
enable everyone to play a full part in village life. Your support at fund-raising events will
be much appreciated and will make a real contribution to the well being of
the village.

PIMPERNE PARISH COUNCIL
Village Green
The Parish Council sought to protect the School Field from
development and in August 2008 submitted an application to register the field
as a Village Green with the registration authority, Dorset County Council,
under the Commons Act which came into force on

The Parish Council is consistent in its belief that Pimperne residents have established a lawful right in respect of the use of the School Field for informal sport, pastimes and leisure activites and that the land should be registered as a Village Green
Registration as a Village Green would have no effect on the day to day running of the School. During school hours the school field would remain under the control of the Headteacher and Governing Body as it has for a number of years.
We await with interest the outcome of our application which will probably take some time to resolve.
The Parish Council remains in constant correspondence with D.C.C. over the poor state of the A354 through the village, with pothole repairs being temporary and inadequate.
Yet again we were second in the 2009 Dorset Best Kept Village Competition. Although second place is highly commendable we would like to achieve first place again and ask for your support in forming a village “clearing up” group to regularly remove litter from our village amenities. Would anyone willing to form or join a working group please contact me.
Please remember you are welcome to attend any parish Council Meeting
and raise matters of local concern in our democratic session. Parish Council Meetings are now held at

HOMEWATCH
Once again it has
been a very quiet six months with only two reported burglaries, both from
outbuildings but also with one particularly distressing distraction fraud when
a village member was coerced into giving money to men posing as Council Tax
collectors. The Steam Fair was once
again very quiet with a high police presence resulting in only 5 reported
crimes within the whole Blandford North area.
Current crimes are
falling into two distinct patterns:
thefts from outhouses and deception.
In the first, criminals tend to check up in advance to see if there is
anything of value around, particularly generators, quad bikes and other such
high value goods before returning after dark to steal them. The watchword is – lock everything of value away.
In the second,
most of you will have received e-mails telling you to update your bank detail
or letting you know that you have unexpectedly come into money but this has now
gone further with people phoning purporting to represent banks, utility
companies, local authorities and other such organisations
to notify that funds are due and seeking to gain details of bank accounts and
credit card details. These are all bogus – never give any such
detail away over the phone.
Even though there
has been a reduction in dwelling burglaries we cannot be complacent and I
repeat here the current advice from the police on how to reduce the risk as
posted on the notice board last month.
Burglars are
opportunists and will choose a target which will provide the best chance of
carrying out the crime undetected. The
burglar will always choose a house which seems to be insecure:
Side gates and accessible windows open
Ladders left out allowing access to otherwise
inaccessible windows
Garden tools left out to be used for forced entry
Untrimmed hedges and high fences in front gardens to
provide cover
Scalable drain pipes adjacent to windows
The burglar will
seek to ensure the property is empty:
Milk bottles or
parcels on the doorstep
Newspapers and
mail protruding through the letter box or visible
Unlit houses after
dark and closed curtains throughout the day
All windows shut
in hot weather
Make it look as if
your house is occupied and don’t advertise your absence:
Install automated
programmable light switches
Use timers that
switch lamps or radios on and off automatically
Consider fitting motorised curtain rails
Have a neighbour or friend pop round to clear your letter box or
door step regularly and keep the garden tidy
Encourage a neighbour to park in your drive
Don’t advertise
that you are going away: cancel regular deliveries: don’t announce your
departure openly: don’t discuss your holiday plans within earshot of strangers:
don’t have your home address shown on any luggage during the outbound leg of
your journey: arrange for a taxi pick up service to be away from your
house: think about getting in a house
sitter.

We will be celebrating World Book Day with a come dressed as your favourite book character day as well as a book fair, where the children can spend their World Book Day vouchers.
The school is also in the process of
producing its own cook book, which will be going on sale shortly, with the
children and staff contributing their favourite recipes. Some of the recipes sound absolutely
delicious.

We are still praying that plans for our new

Work is progressing well on the new Parish room and we hope that this will be completed in April. The new room consists of a small meeting area, kitchenette and a much needed disabled toilet.
This project has been made possible

qualified Play Leaders and has recently had an excellent Ofsted

PIMPERNE SPORTS SOCIETY
Pimperne
Sports Society have been very active during the Autumn
of 2009 and into 2010. We invested time and money into Priory Field by
way of seeding, weed killing and verti-draining (a
process that drives metal stakes into the ground to assist with drainage and
new grass growth). This was successful and ensured that the ground had
enough grass growth to see us through the winter football season.
We
hosted two adult football teams and a youth team this season and the ground has
held up very well. Sadly though we lost a number of home games due to bad
weather around Christmas and the New Year however we are starting to catch up
now. We hold the reputation of being probably the best facility (Changing
area and playing surface) at this level in
We

Looking
forward to Spring and the cricket season we have already started to
prepare the ground and are thinking ahead to the hard work to achieve a quality
playing surface and also to repair the football pitch ready for the 2010
football season.
My
thanks go to the support we get from our Parish Council and the ‘few’
volunteers that give their time willingly to manage the various affairs of the
Society and Priory Field. Should any of you reading this find you have some
time to give to assist the Society, in particular helping out down at Priory
Field please give me a call.

on good authority there will be a summer this year!).
